A Working Artist Statement (mince/dice/chop/carve as needed)
I am fascinated by the complexity of desire. As a result, much of my work addresses the intersection of sexuality, gender, the body, popular culture, beauty, and the grotesque. My work explores the liminal spaces between these complex and sometimes contrasting forces. Oftentimes, in my work, the familiarity of the body is warped; the beautiful becomes horrifying. Both inviting and monstrous, it holds the simultaneous threat of the monstrous body and the allure of the sexualized body. The resulting visual space is confusing, and unsettles the viewer’s understanding of his or her own desire.
